NHS Counter Fraud Authority P4H 2018 Interview
27 July 2018
We managed to catch up with Oliver Stopnitzky, Senior Fraud Prevention Officer at the NHS Counter Fraud Authority, during the recent P4H England event.
On the day, Oliver presented at the Keynote Arena and held a session in the Professional Procurement Skills Development Training Zone, discussing ‘Procurement Fraud in the NHS’.

Why was it important for you to partner P4H this year?
The NHS Counter Fraud Authority is a new organisation, established in November 2017. We are a special health authority, independent of all other NHS bodies. We are here to engage and to talk about the risks of fraud, working in partnership with NHS organisations to better mitigate against the risk of fraud.
It is important for us to raise awareness of who we are and what we do. We are an organisation that investigates fraud, prevents fraud and works with the country and the community to better protect the NHS against fraud.
What are the main challenges faced by your organisation currently?
I think the main challenge is raising awareness of fraud against the NHS, as people rarely understand how much fraud effects people using the service and working in the NHS.
The challenge is to make the public realise that the resource diverted away from the NHS by criminals is money that is taken away from healthcare services, doctors, nurses and healthcare staff.
What was the reaction to your speech and presentation?
It was really interesting. I had a lot of people coming to our stand to find out more and asking questions about what we do and how we can help. All in all, it was a very interesting conference with some great speakers.
Why is it important for people to attend events like P4H?
It’s always worthwhile to have like-minded professionals get together in the one place. I think it’s important to know and understand what is going on within the industry. At events like this, we can work together and find new innovative ways to protect NHS organisations from fraud.
